Obituary of Richard B. Ferris of Pelhamwood

The December 1911 issue of Westchester County Magazine included a brief obituary of a long-time banker of the Bank of New York who lived in the then newly-developed area of Pelham known as Pelhamwood. His name was Richard B. Ferris. The obituary is reproduced below.
"BANKER OVER FIFTY YEARS.

Remarkable Business Career of R. B. Ferris, Pelhamwood

Richard B. Ferris, formerly vice-president of the Bank of New York and the father of Dr. Albert Warren Ferris, chairman of the State Commission in Lunacy, who died at 76 Young avenue, Pelhamwood, Town of Pelham, was born at Albany. His father was one time Chancellor of New York University. He was graduated from that school in the class of 1844. Soon after graduation, he entered the Bank of New York, and remained with that institution over fifty years. He retired with a pension from the bank. Mr. Ferris enlisted with the home guard of Brooklyn at the time of the Civil War, and served with the Twenty-third Regiment. He leaves a widow and four sons. He was well known throughout Westchester County."
