Photograph of Bolton Priory Gardens Published in 1902

In 1902, Alice Morse Earle published a book entitled "Sundials and Roses of Yesterday". In it she included a photograph of the gardens of Bolton Priory. At the time, Frederick Allen owned the Priory.

The photograph shows a sundial that formerly stood at The Mount in Astoria. It appears immediately below, followed by a citation to its source.

Glass Lantern Slides Included in the William R. Montgomery Glass Negatives Collection

Twice this year I have published Blog postings that deal with the treasures contained in the William R. Montgomery Glass Negatives Collection maintained by The Office of The Historian of The Town of Pelham. On February 17, I posted to the Historic Pelham Blog an extensive item entitled "The Glass Negatives of Former Town Historian William R. Montgomery". On April 11, I posted an item entitled "More From the William R. Montgomery Glass Negatives Collection".

Since these postings, I have continued my work to scan the glass negatives of the collection. In so doing, I have discovered that the collection also includes some lovely glass lantern slides likely used by Mr. Montgomery for slide presentations on the history of Pelham and surrounding areas given in the 1920s. The image of one such glass lantern slide appears immediately below.
